Onigiri (鬼斬り, Demon Sword) is an advanced application of Zanjutsu and Kidō, combining the former's physical techniques with the latter's spell-craft to produce something new. The technique was conceptualised by Anika Shihōin and completed by her partner Tadashi Kori, who perfected the technique; this aided him greatly in his acquisition of the Kenpachi title. The technique was subsequently passed down through the Onmitsukidō. It served as one of the core techniques of Anika's hybrid style of combat alongside Shinjisoku, Shunkō and Shukuchi.

Onigiri is an advanced technique described as the pinnacle of Zanjutsu without venturing into Jinzen mastery, which can be expressed in multiple elemental forms like fire and lightning.[1] It is thus ideal for those who, for whatever reason, tend not to use their Shikai or Bankai. The practitioner fights by channelling Kidō through their Zanpakutō to drastically augment their abilities, whilst expressing the properties of the spell used.[2] Kentaro, for example, utilises a lightning current conjured through Hadō #11. Tsuzuri Raiden, which drastically augments the cutting power of his Zanpakutō whilst simultaneously numbing the area struck.[1] Sanada also utilises Onigiri but his is a much more potent variation, for he utilises the technique so that he can cast Hadō #96. Itto Kasō without sacrificing body parts, resulting in a tremendously powerful swing.[2]
